Out-of-School

Youth

The Out-of-school Youth Centre works with all those young people in the community who did not find employment after finishing high school or dropping out of the formal schooling system. Our approach is tailor-made to the needs of each individual youth in a sustainable manner. Several service opportunities direct them towards their specific goal, e.g. tertiary education, employment or self-employment. Throughout their journey, all beneficiaries are mentored by a social worker who tracks their progress, motivates and guides them through the processes.

masifunde also offers a variety of vocational trainings. A training cycle usually lasts up to nine months. During that time, a trainee works closely with a youth support agent (YSA), with whom they define and work towards their individual career goals. The objective is for the youth to accquire neccessary skills to find and remain in employment, or build their own businesses.

Currently, vocational trainings are offered in the following fields:

  • barista and front-of-house

  • cookery and kitchen assistance

  • tour-guides

  • hospitality / guesthouse services

  • sustainable building

  • jewelry-making and beadwork

  • administration

  • child- and youth-work
